I hear a whistle
this morning
on my walk
And I plummeted
down a
deep well
Jeers
around a
bonfire
Embers snap
and the
clink of glass
beer bottles
inspires fear
The flames
lashing
the black
night air
What happens
next
I won’t
go there
My spine
alert to
the terror
The road
caves
beneath
my feet
until I
hear
another
whistle
Incomprehensible
sounds
Evil approaches
A coded language
only I can hear
Can’t anyone hear
the screams?
Crimson
maple leaf
caught in my
hair by the
wind –
The sun shines
again
I’m back on
the street
walking
my dog
Under an
unforgiving
sky
